I used a picture by Norman Rockwell for the reference picture. www.flickr.com/photos/veryhapp… I drew this one three times and just before I started the final draft I got a package of sketching pencils and colored pencils plus some sketch pads. I thought they were awesome and immediately started drawing the final draft. I don't know if you can see it that well with the darkness in the picture but luckily the red sketch pencil was very close to the one used in the picture. For the eyes I used brown, and I put in light blue and grey streaks in the beard because black stood out too much and I put in a light shading of dark brown and darker for the creases in the skin, then for the cheeks added red and pink and erased part of it in an attempt to give it a shining effect. then I went over the whole face with a tan color and went through all of the colors until I was satisfied with how they blended together. The inside of the mouth was very tricky and I don't know how satisfied I am with the end result but it's not horrible. For the lips I just used red. I also tried to add the light blue in the cap to give it a bit of a 3d effect and black on the edges of certain area for the shadings in the cap. I think this turned out pretty good over all and I'm loving my new drawing tools. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!
